Production I.G’s upcoming drama film A Letter to Momo will screen at October film festivals in Hawaii and Warsaw, Poland.

The Hawaii International Film Festival will screen the film on October 16 at 11:30 a.m. and October 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Japanese with English subtitles. A Letter to Momo is nominated for the Halekulani Golden Orchid Award in the “Narrative Feature” category at the festival. The Pacific Rim festival will also show the anime movie Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos.

Tsuburaya Productions announced the upcoming release of Ultraman Saga. The film is set to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the Ultraman Franchise and will open on March 24th, 2012 in Japan. The film will be in both 2D and 3D. It is not noted as to when the film will make across the pacific the North America.

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a December launch date for its Voltron comic series, based on the classic robot super-hero.  The new series will be written by Brandon Thomas, with covers by Alex Ross.  The first issue will also have covers by Sean Chen and Wagner Reis.

Dynamite obtained the license from Classic Media and World Events Productions (see “Dynamite Lands Voltron Comics License” for news of the license acquisition and some history of the property in comics).

In an online journal entry on Friday, acclaimed science-fiction author Yasutaka Tsutsui reported that he confered over plans for an anime adaptation of his recent light novel Bianca Overstudy “among various other topics” with Kodansha editor Katsushi Ohta and Aniplex producer Atsuhiro Iwakami the day before. Tsutsui (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Paprika, Mirai Kara Sh?nen Super Jetter) launched this novel with three chapters in the seventh volume of Kodansha’s literary magazine Faust in 2008, and Noizi Ito (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Shakugan no Shana) drew the illustrations.

The North American anime distributor Media Blasters announced on its Facebook page on Friday its English dub cast for its upcoming DVD release of the Bakuman. television anime series.

Media Blasters’ AnimeWorks label will start releasing the anime on DVD this November with the first seven episodes. Media Blasters also confirmed it will release Bakuman. 2, which is slated to air on October 1.

The original manga that inspired the anime was written by Tsugumi Ohba and drawn by Takeshi Obata — the co-creators ofDeath Note. The story involves Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high school student, who is persuaded to work towards becoming a manga creator with the encouragement of two classmates. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America.
