TOKYO, JAPAN (September 21, 2010) –niwango Inc., known for its “NicoNico Douga” video sharing website (www.nicovideo.jp), and Aniplex Inc. have jointly announced today that they will premiere Aniplex’s brand new TV series titled “Fate/Zero” worldwide (except for Japan) streaming simultaneously with eight different language subtitles on Sunday, October 2 at 1:00am (Japan local time) immediately following its TV airing on October 1.

 

In this first time event in the industry’shistory, the First Episode of “Fate/Zero” will be streamed on “NicoNico Channel” for anime fans outside Japan free of charge. Subsequent episodes will also be streamed in the same manner every week.

The two Pokemon: Black and White movies (see “Pokemon Double Feature”) will be released in over 300 digital theaters in December. The releases will be for one weekend only. Pokemon the Movie: White—Victini and Zekrom will be released on December 3rd and 4th.  Release dates for the second movie, Pokemon the Movie: Black—Victini and Reshiram, will be announced soon.

 

Pokemon: Black and White has been red hot since it launched as two videogames early this year with over a million units sold in the first 24 hours (see “Over a Million Pokemon Games Sold”).

News: Shueisha Starts Semi-Monthly Manga Mag for Grown-Ups

This year’s 20th issue of Shueisha’s Business Jump magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Shueisha will launch a new semi-monthly seinen manga magazine called Grand Jump in November. According to Shueisha, the magazine “for liberated adults.”  Shueisha will provide more details on the new magazine on October 5 in Business Jump magazine’s combined 21st/22nd issue — the last issue of the magazine. Shueisha had announced in July that it would end both Business Jump and another semi-monthly seinen magazine called Super Jump, but would launch a new semi-monthly magazine this fall.

News: Domestic/Int’l Animation Market in Japan Grew 5.8% in ’10

The Animation Market Analysis Project of Japan’s Media Development Research Institute (MDRI) reported on September 9 that the market for domestic and foreign animation in Japan grew 5.8% to 229.0 billion yen (about US$2.55 billion) in 2010. This was the second annual increase in a row, after the 1.6% increase last year.

The same research firm had reported that the market peaked at 241.5 billion yen (US$2.53 billion) in 2006, before dipping to 230.2 billion yen (US$2.41 billion) in 2007 and again to 212.9 billion yen (US$2.26 billion) — a 7.5% drop — in 2008. (Due to the fluctuating currency exchange rate, the decrease or increase in U.S. dollars is often different than it is in the original yen.)

The Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC), part of the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of Japan, will screen Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW on September 30 at 6:30 p.m. Held at the JICC Auditorium in Washington D.C., the showing will include English subtitles.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Guests must register for the event on the JICC website. Although registration does not guarantee guests a seat, registered guests will be seated first.

FUNimation has partnered with ELEVEN ARTS to bring the feature length follow-up film to the popular Kung Fu action film “IP MAN” series, THE LEGEND IS BORN – IP MAN, to the big screen in theaters across the U.S. starting this weekend in Seattle, WA.

News: CLAMP, GACKT Collaborate on Moon Saga Stage Play and Manga

The manga creator quartet CLAMP drafted the Moon Saga Yoshitsune Hiden (Moon Saga: The Secret of Yoshitsune) stage play with singer Gackt in the lead role, and the play will run in Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Osaka between July 15 and August 26 of next year.

Gackt will play the title role of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a general who was critical to the Genpei War that inspired the literary classic Heike Monogatari (Tale of the Heike). The play’s version of Yoshitsune will possess strange powers.
