Summary:

Childhood friends who grow up to fall in love is a classic romantic plot line, anime and manga use this convention a lot, probably a bit too much. In most of these, a love triangle usually comes about to make things more interesting. Kekkaishi is not much different except that the love triangle is all in Yoshimori’s head, making for some interesting comedic moments.
