News: Anime NebrasKon Announce Its Last Guest For 2011, Sean Schemmel

October 9, 2011- OMAHA, NE Anime NebrasKon is thrilled to announce its last guest for 2011, Sean Schemmel. Sean Schemmel is most well known for voicing Goku and King Kai in Dragon Ball Z and the various Dragon Ball Z video games.  He has also voiced Hiroto in Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, Gaston in Beserk, Rick in Blue Gender and Amidamaru in Shaman King. He has worked as an ADR director and scriptwriter.

 

Sean Schemmel joins fellow Dragon Ball Z cast member, Chris Sabat, the voice actor for Vegeta and Piccolo. David Brehm, Keith Silverstein, Matt Greenfield, Stephanie Young, and Tiffany Grant have been confirmed for this year’s convention.

News: Otakon to Host 2011 FMA Film Director Kazuya Murata

Otakon announced on Friday that it will host director Kazuya Murata and the North American premiere of his summer 2011 film, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, during the July 29-31 event in Baltimore. Otakon will screen the film with English subtitles.

Murata served as the assistant director for both Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series and he also directed several individual episodes. Before those series, he directed the Makeruna! Makendo video anime and the animated music video TWO-MIX: White Reflection. He contributed as an episode director to such popular anime series as Eureka Seven, Figure 17, Mars Daybreak, Planetes, and Steel Angel Kurumi. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos is his directorial debut on a feature film.

LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2011) — Anime Expo, North America’s largest anime and manga celebration, has announced voice actors Toshiyuki Morikawa and Taliesin Jaffe at its latest Guests of Honor, when it returns to the LA Convention Center from July 1 – 4, 2011.  Fans will have an opportunity to see and hear from both of these prolific artists during a meet-and-greet, autograph signing and focus panel.  In addition, half-time at the Masquerade competition will feature Mr. Morikawa in a live voice-over demonstration.

In addition, Kurosaki will be a Guest of Honor participating in a meet-and-greet, autograph signing and focus panel at Anime Expo, when it returns to the LA Convention Center from July 1 – 4, 2011.

Bob Shirohata is a director of Japanese animation, best known for his work on the anime adaptation of Gravitation. His most recent work is directing the anime adaptations Hetalia: Axis Powers and Hetalia World Series. Other directing work of his includes Diamond Daydreams, Let’s Dance With Papa, and Minami no Shima no Chiisana Hikouki Birdy (South Island – A Small Plane Birdies).

Tony Todd, Bill Johnson, “Day of the Dead” reunion, Dan Shor and Max Wasa join already impressive lineup of Horror, Sci-Fi and Pop Culture Icons

St. Louis, MO – April 1, 2011 – Dyer Straits Productions announce the newest additions to Contamination 2011  Tony Todd (“Candyman”),  Bill Johnson (Leatherface in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2”), Day of the Dead” Reunion with Gary Klar, Mark Tierno and Terry Alexander,  Dan Shor (Ram in 1982’s “Tron”) along with Playboy Playmate  Max Wasa.  These celebrities join an already impressive lineup of icons at the highly anticipated follow-up to St. Louis’ first horror, sci-fi and pop-culture convention all under one roof.   The Sheraton Westport Chalet will host the event June 24th – 26th, 2011.  Actor  Eric Roberts and The Boondock Saints” Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and David Dela Rocco are headlining the event.

I did not attend Anime St. Louis last year, but did attend it in 2009, so I cannot directly compare it to last year. I was able to attend Saturday and Sunday this year and what I saw overall was a great con. While there were a few issues, Chairman Jeremy Johnson and the Anime St. Louis staff did a spectacular job this year.

Vic has been acting for stage and screen since he was 8 years old. But he started his career in anime a little over ten years ago as Vega in Streetfighter II.

 

Since then Vic has been in more than a hundred and fifty shows and video games, known for such roles as Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, Tamaki Suou in Ouran High School Host Club, Fai in Tsubasa Chronicle, Dark in DN Angel, Kurz in Full Metal Panic, Broly in Dragonball Z, Kougaijji in Saiyuki, Ikkaku in Bleach, Yukito in Air, Takanaga in Wallflower, Tatsu in Peacemaker, Luciano in Code Geass, Virgil Walsh in Trinity Blood,  Hikaru in Macross and many more. Currently Vic is playing Zero in Vampire Knight, and Yoshimori in Adult Swim’s Kekkaishi.

Archon 34: New Year, New Venue

Archon 34, St. Louis Premier Sci-Fi-Fantasy Convention

For the past 15 years, Archon had been at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, Illinois but due to “artistic differences” between the hotel and the Archon staff, the con was located to a new location. This year, Archon was located at Westport Plaza in St. Louis, Missouri. Naturally, being at a new location, some people will be skeptical because the Gateway Center was such a great place.
