Luther’s Loot, Gaming Systems reviewed; Volume 2: ColecoVision
Thursday, July 29th, 2010The ColecoVision was released in August 1982. Packed in with the ColecoVision was the Nintendo’s Donkey Kong, which was a real sales booster due to how close it was to the arcade version. By Christmas that year, the American Company, Coleco, had sold over 500,000 ColecoVision. In early 1983, the ColecoVision sales had surpassed 1 million, but after that sails quickly dropped due to the video game crash of 1983. The market crashed and much of the population had given up purchasing games and systems. Later that year, Coleco abandoned the ColecoVision for their new product, the Adam personal computer which had been highly anticipated. Although the ColecoVision was gone it wasn’t quite forgotten. The Adam had a cartridge port for ColecoVision games, and there was also an Adam add on to the ColecoVision so it worked the same as the computer. Yet, due to the Adam unpopularity because of its inferior programing, the ColecoVision just slowly faded away in to the dust.
