Tokyopop CEO Stu Levy previously announced that it would shut down publishing operations in the US by May 31st.
Ostensibly, this has created quite a stir with fans of the manga and detractors of the flamboyant and flashy CEO.

The classified ad service Craigslist is hosting two ads from the international manga publisher Tokyopop, which is in the process of shutting down its North American publishing division in Los Angeles. Tokyopop has confirmed with ANN that the posts are legitimate.
The ads are for the sale of two lighted signs, both featuring Tokypop’s name and “robofish” logo on metal. One sign is four inches deep and 2.5 feet by 3.5 feet (10 by 80 by 100 centimeters), and the other (pictured) is much larger: 11 feet by 8.5 feet (3.4 by 2.6 meters).

Well, I don’t know about all of you, but I sure was disappointed in the closing of Tokyopop in the USA. Being so involved with manga reading and the people who read them, I was totally surprised. And a lot of us are lost in the middle of a series. Here’s something that might help, a link to Tokyopop Germany.

I am involved in lots of discussions about Japanese snacks and products because I work at an Anime store in St. Louis. I thought this one was cool enough to investigate. It began for me when a couple came into the store. They were drawn in by the Japanese products in the window because their grown child, and their child’s spouse, had taught for several years in Japan, although they are now back in the United States. Having a nice, general conversation about Lucky Cats (I’m quite found of them myself, we’ve had one for years – they are cat figurines, small to giant, that have a raised paw), I was intrigued when the wife mentioned that there was an American candy that the kids always wanted to eat before they took a test, whose name was a play on the Lucky Cat. Luckily, her husband quickly came up with the Kit Kat brand name. Cool.

This December 20th there is a fundraiser and toy drop off for Toys for Tots at Crestwood Court, in the St. Louis, Missouri area. It will be located on the east end of the mall, close to the movie theater and the post office. A local radio station will be there, as well as food tasting.
Crestwood Court, (Crestwood Mall) is located on the corner of Watson Road and Sappington. There is plenty of parking, ground level and in the garage. This mall is unique because much of the space is now “Art Space” and is occupied by artist, dance groups, theaters and small, family owned stores that you won’t find anywhere else.
