Industry/Publisher Age Rating Directory
Most Anime, Manga, Games, etc. have age ratings that the industry or publisher believes is acceptable. Not every publisher has the same rating system, and Games have a rating system of their own. Here is the basic systems that you’ll see most often (Click the Company to go directly to their site’s ratings page):
Manga Ratings:
Manga are always rated in some way. It can be as symple as saying “teen” on the back around the bar code, or, it can be as complicated as “T for violence, mature themes, tobacco, etc.” Here are the ratings you’ll see by each distributor/publisher:
| ALL AGES. May be suitable for readers or consumers of any age. For example, may contain mild language and fantasy violence but no swearing or nudity. | ||
| TEEN. May be suitable for early teens and older. For example, may contain violence, infrequent use of strong language, suggestive themes or situations, crude humor, alcohol and/or tobacco use. | ||
| TEEN PLUS. May be suitable for older teens and adults. For example, may contain intense and/or gory violence, sexual content, frequent strong language, alcohol, tobacco and/or other substance use. | ||
| MATURE. Suitable for adults only. May contain extreme violence, mature themes and graphic depictions. |
A (All Ages)- An “A” rating indicates that the material contained within the book has been deemed unlikely to be found inappropriate for any particular age group.
T (Teen)- A “T” rating indicates that there may be content within a book that some parents or guardians my consider inappropriate for children under the age of 13.
OT (Older Teen)- An “OT” rated book contains material that some parents or guardins may considder inappropriate for readers under the age of 16.
M (Mature)- An “M” rated book is intended for mature readership and may be considered inappropriate for readers under the age of 18.
Content Indicators:
L= Language S= Sexual Situations V= Violence N= Nudity

Youth Age 10+ Appropriate for ages 10 and up. May contain mild language, fantasy violence and bullying. |

Teen Age 13+ Appropriate for ages 13 and up. May contain infrequent and mild profanity, mild violence and gore, crude humor, mild sexual language and themes, nondescript nudity, and mild fanservice, as well as references to tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drug use. |

Older Teen Age 16+ Appropriate for ages 16 and up. May contain profanity and strong language, moderate violence and gore, moderate sexual themes and sexual violence, nudity, moderate fanservice, and alcohol and illegal drug use. |

Mature Ages 18+ Appropriate for ages 18 and up. May contain excessive profanity and language; intense violence; excessive gore; explicit sexual language, themes and violence; and explicit fanservice. |
EARLY CHILDHOODTitles rated EC (Early Childhood) have content that may be suitable for ages 3 and older. Contains no material that parents would find inappropriate.
EVERYONETitles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.
TEENTitles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
MATURETitles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
ADULTS ONLYTitles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.
RATING PENDINGTitles listed as RP (Rating Pending) have been submitted to the ESRB and are awaiting final rating. (This symbol appears only in advertising prior to a game’s release.)
When a content descriptor is preceded by the term “Mild,” it is intended to convey low frequency, intensity or severity of the content it modifies.
