Some things are so important  that you must go the extra mile in order to finish the job.

Synopsis:

Volume 3 of Kingyo Used Books opens with a story of a young lady so devoted to her favorite author that she is willing to step down from the lead position in the fan club because she believes that she just does not know enough. She learns this leson when a man who is after her affections goes so far as to read the manga that he has an intense fear of. This effort to go the extra mile proves to be a turning point for the ultimate fan and proved that even a novice can be important to the group.

There are several other stories that run through this collection of short stories that are all tied together by the used book store and the power of art and how manga can unite even the weary travelers. I had never thought how much a simple little book could be an international bonding of those who seek more but also long for home. I have decided that the next time I go on a trip I will be sure to bring a well read manga along with me just in case I run into a fellow wanderer who could always use something familiar to bring them back to their center.

The final story gives even more insight into how little things that happen in our life can come back to gives the courage to take bold action. This final story also brings together another of the tales and proves that it is a small world after all.

Commentary:

This quiet series of stories start off very lack luster and might give you case to reconsider your choice of a manga to read. I encourage you to continue and find the real value in the series of stories. The way in which these simple little tales of manga loves and their almost over the top obsessions points us all in an unexpected direction and ends up showing us that we are all somehow intertwined.

I found that the writing was at first very superficial but upon reflection I can see how the words were ment to hide the true and then allow them to unfold as a flower does in the morning light. There are always mysteries in life and as you get older you begin to discover how a little action over time has had huge impacts in your development. It was not until I got through the volume that it really hit me and I could see how these somewhat disconnected stories all tied together and have an important message to provide.

Overall Grade: B

Kingyo Used Books Volume 3 has stepped up and proved that it is deserving of being a Viz Signature book.

“In the Radius”:

A great companion to this would have to be What a Wonderful World or even I’ll Give It My All Tomorrow.
