On December 4th, TOKYO NICONICO COSPELLECTION was held at Nicofarre, a next-generation performance venue in Tokyo’s Roppongi district. The event was hosted by between Nico Nico Douga and Cure, Japan’s largest cosplay website. The event featured more than 100 famous cosplayers dressed up as popular characters from anime, video games and Vocaloid, as well as dancers from Nico Nico Douga. The audience was mesmerized by varied and gorgeous performances featuring walking, action and dancing. There was also an appearance by surprise guest Yuichiro “Jien Otsu” Nagashima, a professional martial arts fighter who won the K-1 WORLD MAX 2010 70kg Japan Tournament and is also known as a cosplay fighter.

HOUSTON, October 27, 2011—Sentai Filmworks announces the acquisition of the new paranormal thriller series PHI-BRAIN ~ KAMI NO PUZZLE from famed director and manga creator Junichi Sato (Sailor Moon, Sergeant Frog, Pretear, Aria,) and legendary anime studio SUNRISE (Mobile Suit Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Sorceror Hunters, Dirty Pair, Escaflowne.)  Based on a treatment by ‘Hajime Yatate,‘ a collective name for the Sunrise staff, and with script supervision by Mayori Sekijima (Najica Blitz Tactics, Plastic Little, Sol Bianca, Clamp School,) the 25 episode series will feature character designs by veteran animator Youhei Sasaki and music by Akio Izutsu.

This DVD set will contain the entire television series, housed in a single keepcase, and feature the previously released English-language dub, Japanese audio, and removable English subtitles and on-screen translations. On-disc extras will include the series’ multiple opening and closing sequences, plus behind-the-scenes footage.

HOUSTON, October 17, 2011— Sentai Filmworks.has formally confirmed the acquisition for the eagerly anticipated anime series THE WORLD GOD ONLY KNOWS, which was first revealed to massive applause at the 2011 Anime Weekend Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia on September 30, 2011.  Based on the super-hit manga by Tamiki Wakaki, the 24 episode series is helmed by Trigun and Flame of Recca vet Shigehito Takayanagi, who is directing from scripts supervised by Read Or Die creator Hideyuki Kurata (Excel Saga, Kamichu) and character designs adapted from Wakaki’s originals by Akio Watanabe (SoulTaker, Nurse Witch Komugi-chan.)  Original music is provided by Transformers Armada composer Hayato Matsuo (Hellsing Ultimate, Streetfighter Alpha.)

HOUSTON, October 12, 2011— Sentai Filmworks has let the genie out of the bottle… or in this case, can… with the company’s announcement of the acquisition of the latest ‘pop’ culture phenomenon from Japan, AKIKAN!  Animation industry veteran director Yuji Himaki, already known for his work about a superhero made of bread with the latest Anpanman feature film, switches materials and genders to helm both the 12 episode series and the bonus OVA telling the story of a bubbly young girl who just happens to be a soft drink can, while the process of adapting creators Riku Ranjo and Hiro Suzuhira’s original text and art go respectively to script-master Hideaki Koyasu (Brighter than the Dawning Blue, Kure-nai,) and character designer Ryo Tanaka (Virtua Fighter, Lupin III Missed By a Dollar.)

News: CLAMP’s Legal Drug Gets a Name Change to Drug&Drop in Japan

Young Ace magazine has issued an announcement in its November issue confirming that the rebooted Lawful Drug will have its name changed to Drug&Drop following the release of four compilation volumes leading up to the relaunch on November 4th in Japan.

The name change may be due to issues with the logo for the title, which prominently features a marijuana leaf and has caused issues with the publisher on previous occasions according to statements made by the circle.

The previous Legal Drug series was previously published by Tokyopop in the US.

The title change is confirmed by website Comic Natalie.

October 9, 2011- OMAHA, NE Anime NebrasKon is thrilled to announce its last guest for 2011, Sean Schemmel. Sean Schemmel is most well known for voicing Goku and King Kai in Dragon Ball Z and the various Dragon Ball Z video games.  He has also voiced Hiroto in Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, Gaston in Beserk, Rick in Blue Gender and Amidamaru in Shaman King. He has worked as an ADR director and scriptwriter.

 

Sean Schemmel joins fellow Dragon Ball Z cast member, Chris Sabat, the voice actor for Vegeta and Piccolo. David Brehm, Keith Silverstein, Matt Greenfield, Stephanie Young, and Tiffany Grant have been confirmed for this year’s convention.
